Parkin' It.

Yesterday, after a much needed nap by all parties, we decided to take Malachi to this new (new to us) park over by the community center. We pushed him on the swings for a little bit, went down a couple slides and then walked over to the WICKED busy outdoor pool to check things out. The pools were rockin'! They even have a lazy river...we may have to go EVERY weekend :) We did see this one lady with the worst sunburn I have ever seen (I contemplated on jumping the fence to tell her she need to go home haha). It was a pretty relaxing little Sunday for the Lohrey clan.

Powell Gardens.

So this weekend didn't start off so great. On Friday Kai had a 105 fever, a double ear infection and didn't sleep. Needless to say, Friday night was a long night. Surprisingly he was a happy camper, even Friday night when he was playing in the tub he was splashing away like nothing had even phased him. What a little trooper! Saturday his temp dropped to about 102 and then FINALLY broke that afternoon. Brian and I decided that it was just too nice of a day to stay cooped inside and we thought the fresh air might do Malachi some good so we headed to Powell Gardens. It really was nice to get out and it was absolutely GORGEOUS, but it just doesn't compare to the Dallas Arboretum :( We still had fun though and Kai seemed to be back to his normal hyper happy self.

Freddy & Matilda.

Okay so suddenly we have a family of frogs just bouncing around outside our apartment. Well, I guess they're not always bouncing, but they are LURKING. As I told you before, Sunday Brian discovered little Freddy. That same night he had jumped onto our door that goes out onto our porch and we literally sat there for an hour watching him grab bugs with his tongue. I know, I know, we're weird...BUT seriously it was like our own little National Geographic right before our very own eyes. Well when we finally pulled the shades down we decided we would probably never see poor little Freddy again. We assumed that nature would take it's course and he would be eaten. Horrible to think, I know. WELL...the next night we're just sitting around enjoying the Celtics game when Brian was like, "OHHHHHHHH MY GOODNESS IT'S FREDDY!!" Naturally I thought he was pulling my leg so I refused to turn around (this refusal lasted all of about 30 seconds). Low and behold I turned to see the little guy stuck to our window on our door. We did some further investigating only to discover this wasn't Freddy, but instead was his wife, Matilda!!! She was a lot smaller and didn't have any dots on the back of her. We decided to leave her be for the night for it is rude to stare and watch people eat (and by people I mean frogs haha). Well a little while later I just couldn't stand it and went to find Matilda but she was NOWHERE TO BE FOUND! Suddenly I laid my eyes on her...she was on THE OTHER WINDOW by our table. Just sitting there eating bugs. It was absolutely crazy!

Okay so yesterday when the boys were down for a nap I just thought of Freddy and Matilda and decided to go check out our deck to see if they were hiding under the Thule where Brian had originally found Freddy on Sunday. So I waltz out there thinking that my chances of finding them are slim to none when from the corner of my eye I see a little movement. Naturally I jumped a little bit because it was quite startling! Then, I slowly crept up to find...NOT Freddy, NOT Matilda, BUT another frog! We have named him Edgar. He is bigger than Freddy and looks a little older. As the day went on I would randomly go out and check to see if he was still there and he was...UNTIL...it was darker. I looked all around and BAM I found him on our door! Then, just out of random curiosity I went back to the same window where Matilda had been "hunting" the night before to see if she was there...AND SHE WAS! It's ridiculous! And Edgar is back under the Thule today just chillaxing waiting for dinner. I am starting to think that Freddy is gonzo beans. Sad sad Freddy.

Opples and Bononos.

Malachi is changing so much every day. Some days it seems like he changes from one hour to the next! His latest thing is eating things on his own...and will have it no other way. The other day Brian gave him a banana just to see what he would do with it if we didn't cut it up. First he started sucking on it, then realized that his chompers could really do the trick. It was like we released the BEAST. Every bite was as if he were a starving shark. His facial expressions were absolutely hysterical. He does this same thing with apples and pears and it just cracks us up. Well this morning, clearly I had lost my mind, because I cut up his banana into smaller pieces. He sat there and starred at me with a look of confusion and then he just FREAKED out. It was mind boggling. Then I had my little "Ah-ha" moment and gave him the rest of the banana whole. Within minutes it was gone. Kid cracks me up more and more each day.

Ribbit.

Sunday morning. We have a love/hate relationship. I love waking up to Malachi's little giggles, but hate knowing that I still probably won't be able to go back to sleep. Once the kid is up, HE IS UP. Well this morning was just the same. I tried to feed him and put him back down, but instead of snuggling back in bed I grabbed a book and went to the couch knowing that in about 10 minutes Malachi would do his "come get me lady" cry. It's more of a fake cry/laugh mix. Sure enough, he did just as I thought. Thankfully Brian woke up shortly after and took the reigns. He made me a delish breakfast sandwich and some yummy coffee (I am spoiled because he ALWAYS makes my coffee). Soon after breakfast I passed out right on the couch. And when I say I passed out, I mean, out cold, dead to the world passed out. Well Brian fed Kai his breakfast and took him out on the deck so I could catch some more zzzzz. Ahhhhh. Not sure how much time passed but Brian ran into the house and shook me awake (it was gentle so I wasn't too worried). I came out to the deck to find Kai continually turning the skateboard wheel over and over and over and over. BUT that is not what Brian wanted to show me. Sitting on our little table was a tiny little frog just chillin. Brian was sure to correct me by informing me he was sunbathing (blah blah blah haha). Naturally I grabbed the camera before we showed Kai...and naturally Kai lunged for the poor thing wanting to smash it and probably put it in his mouth :) We knew better to letter him do so.

Malachi has officially met his first frog. One of many I'm sure!!

Them Boys.

So Brian and I finally bought this bike trailer hitch thingy to put on the back on my bike. Unfortunately we have been unable to locate any helmets small enough to fit Kai and Hayden. Thankfully this little bike do-hickey also turns into a stroller, which is great because it fits 2 kids and I am able to take the little boys out for walks in the afternoon. It gets us out of the house and the boys just LOVE it. They talk and babble the whole time...and Kai typically ends up with Hayden's "plug" by the end of the trip. They are just so cute together. The other day I saw a turtle crossing the road so I parked them up on the grass and went to get it to show the boys. Thankfully my cat-like reflexes were in check BECAUSE the ding-dang turtle peed everywhere while I was walking back to the stroller. It was a little sad because they didn't even care about it. They just gave me a look like, "hey why did the ride stop". Boo.

In the last couple of weeks or so they have really started to take note of each other and "play" (translation: attack) one another. Yesterday Kai army crawled over to Hayden and tried to take his plug. In turn Hayden attacked his face, bit Kai's lip, causing it to bleed. Kai started crying, which made Hayden start crying and I had to bring them both outside on the deck to calm them down. I love that they play and that they are buddies. However, I am really starting to have to keep my eyes on them. Kai's new favorite thing (besides straight up attacking Hayden) is to attach and pull down all the movies. Hayden is just starting to get into the video games. I think I need to get them kennels :)

Butt Naked.

Kai has 2 favorite times of the day: breakfast time because he gets yogurt and he LOVES yogurt, and bath time because, well, he just loves being naked. From the moment I take him out of his highchair after dinner he is just grinning ear to ear because he knows what's coming. We give him a bath every night, not because he's dirty, but because it's just part of our nightly routine and he loves it. I like to think of it more of getting in a little "pool" time :) He screams and splashes, rolls all around, kicks his legs, screams some more and in general, it is just very entertaining. After the tub we let him roll around naked in the living room for a bit and get some of that last bit of energy out before we feed him and put him down for the night. But MAN is this kid hyper at night. He is like a rolling ball of energy and as soon as I grab that diaper to put on him BAM mood changes. He gets all whiney and rebellious. He just loves being naked. Sometimes if he's being super fussy during the day (not a common thing, but still, it happens) I'll just strip him down and bring him outside. Calms him right down. He is great and has the cutest little bum. Squeeze.
